Animal POV remains a near and dear genre subset of story because it asks not only to consider our human context, but where we fit in the world we share with other living and feeling creatures. Whether we anthropomorphize, celebrate, or disparage animals through these narratives, teaches us, as readers and human beings, how to empathize with experiences we cannot hope to understand. It is still worth trying.
